Switzerland is a representation of exceptional beauty and cultural diversity. The Swiss Alps, the lush green meadows, the pretty countryside of the country, are but a small glimpse of what it has to offer.
Let us take a look at some of the most beautiful places in Switzerland that you shouldn’t miss visiting on your next trip!
Interlaken
Interlaken is a stunning beauty, situated in between the Thun Lake and the Brienz Lake. It is surrounded by the beautiful Alps of Switzerland all around that are sure to leave you in awe. Interlaken promotes a variety of activities such as camping in the lakeside, or packing your bags and hiking up to the nearby mountains from Harder Kulm.
Manor Farm Campsite is one such campsite at Interlaken overlooking the gorgeous Bernese Oberland mountains. It is an ideal place for family camping that has a plethora of activities both at and near to the campsite. Activities at the campsite include swimming in the Thun Lake, and other sports available whereas if you are willing to step out a bit, you could enjoy the spa town of Interlaken a few miles away from the campsite, and indulge in water sports such as Canoeing, etc.
You could also take the train to get a view of the major peaks in the region – the Jungfrau ( the highest railway station in Europe ), Eiger and Monch glaciers, if you don’t prefer to hike up all the way.
Geneva
Lake Geneva is the largest Alpine lake of Europe and is the second most popular town among tourists in Switzerland. Among tourist attractions like the resort town of Montreux, taking a boat ride in the Lake Geneva is very popular. You could take a boat ride to the Chillon Castle, the most beautiful castle in town. Chillon Castle is a medieval fortress situated at the shores of Lake Geneva.
Sunsets by Lake Geneva are also a delight to watch, and lakeside strolls in the evenings, very relaxing. Some of the other attractions surrounding the place are the cities and towns that surround the lake, hiking and skiing opportunities in the mountain ranges of Jura and the Alps.
Bern
Switzerland is not only its Alps! Visit the Old town of Bern to feel the medieval history of the city through its exquisite antiqueness. It is well preserved through all the years, and you can witness the painted figures of the 15th century and the Renaissance works of the 16th century at this place.
Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bern is home to the artist Paul Klee, and many of his collections are hosted in the Zentrum Paul Klee. Make sure to visit Bern if you are interested in art, history and all things medieval.
Zermatt
Zermatt is situated at the foothills of Matterhorn and since it is a car free village, it stays pure and untouched, away from all the pollution in the cities. It promotes a variety of activities like hiking and guided tours in the summers, and a range of snow activities, most popularly skiing in the winters.
Zermatt is a snow lover’s paradise, and could be your perfect winter destination. It is equipped with slopes of all levels of difficulty, and skiing under the shade of the Matterhorn is bliss.
The beauty of Matterhorn is unparallelled, both in the summers and winters, no doubt it is the most photographed mountain in the world. A mountain excursion / hike to Matterhorn is sure to impress you with its refreshing mountain air, snow capped peaks and the scenic views that surround it. Don’t miss the sunset and sunrise at Matterhorn!
Apart from this, you could also explore the Matterhorn Museum, and the churches and chapels in the city.
Lucerne
Lucerne is one of the most happening cities in central Switzerland, best explored by foot. Both nature and history can be explored in Lucerne.
Lucerne is home to many architectural wonders. Kapellbrückee, Europe’s oldest wooden bridge is famous for its sunsets with the colorful hues that reflect on the rivers. The Swiss Museum of Transport is an interesting place that takes you through transport in all levels – land, sea and sky. The Lucerne Art Museum and its beautiful architecture is also with a visit.
For nature lovers, Mount Pilatus that is 20 minutes away from Lucerne is a good getaway place. The snow capped mountain peaks of the Mount Pilatus is a visual treat to the eyes. Visitors can either take a train or a cable car trip to enjoy the stunning alpine views of the place. You could also hike up to the mountains!
